We work together with local and international corporations, organizations or groups in affected areas to direct our relief donations, goods, supplies and volunteers. We try to help the victims of all natural disasters to the extent out volunteer staff and fundraisers are able.
A large part of our sustainability comes from our success with finding and retaining volunteers and being able to consistently raise monetary funds through donations.
We currently have two ways of increasing our ability to donate funds. We have been successful with both hosting fundraiser events and receiving contributions here and mail payable to "KIF" at PO BOX 1, Burbank, CA 91503, United States. The relief funds donated to KIF goes to victims of the disaster areas.
mobilize our volunteer team to create a special task force that gathers information, assesses situation of disaster areas and coordinate with our partners;- reach out to designated nonprofits that deal with victims on location in disaster areas;
- set up a designated donation page and organize fundraisers to raise relief funds;
- get our voices out to public through our social media and our international and local nonprofit partners and affiliates;
- coordinate with our partners to set up warehouse to receive relief goods and items from donors; and finally
- deliver relief funds and relief goods and items to victims.
2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami
In response to the physically and spiritually devastating earthquake and the subsequent tsunami that struck the Tohoku region of Japan on March 11, 2011, we have raised substantial funds through our continuous fundraisers, which were distributed to victims in disaster areas such as Fukushima Prefecture, Iwate Prefecture and Miyagi Prefecture where those Governors sent us Letters of Appreciation in English. Additionally, a 20-foot container was shipped and delivered much needed diapers, 950 quilts, stationary goods, clothing, letters and messages, and bicycles, which at the moment were the most useful mode of transportation throughout the land torn areas.
2015 Nepal Earthquake
In response to the April 2015 Nepal Earthquake (also known as the Gorkha earthquake) that killed nearly 9,000 people and injured nearly 22,000, KIF has partnered up with a nonprofit organization that has local volunteers who tirelessly helped victims and provided them the relief funds KIF has raised in the U.S. to rebuild the disaster area in Nepal.
2018 Japan Floods
In response to the 2018 Japan Floods and subsequent landslides that two million people were forced to flee their homes and hundreds of victims having lost their lives, KIF partnered up with many nonprofit organizations, including Sister Cities International, Japan-America Societies, Women in Cable and Telecommunications (WICT) SoCal to raise relief funds to help victims of Koyamada’s hometown Okayama Prefecture that has been hard hit.
